Terme di Caracalla - La mela reintegrata - Michelangelo Pistoletto

The Apple Made Whole Again in Carrara marble was modelled and made on the basis of sketches by the international artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, in order to be installed in the basement of the Baths of Caracalla in Rome. The project, curated by Achille Binito Oliva in collaboration with RAM Radioartemobile, has been promoted by mibact (Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities and Tourism), Electa publishing house and Pistoletto himself. The white marble block of Carrara has been carefully chosen and the Nicoli sculpture studios sculpted it, realizing a masterpiece of the total weight of over 12,300 kg, and 2.1 meters height (2.85 meters considering leaf too), diameter of 2.5 meters. Logistic has been followed by Minguzzi srl, expert in transporting pieces of art. The work were divided in two parts for logistic matters and then definitively assembled at place. As evident, the Apple in Terme di Caracalla differs in physical consistency, size, link with the surrounding environment, from the one inaugurated in Milan and now located in Stazione Centrale.
