Expo2015 Milano - La mela reintegrata - Michelangelo Pistoletto

Created in 2015 by the artist Michelangelo Pistoletto and Tiziana Monterisi, ” The Apple Made Whole Again” was installed on the occasion of the opening of “EXPO Milano 2015” and “EXPO in the city” in Duomo square of Milan. The galvanized iron frame, consisting of 8 segments with a total weight of about 13 tons, a height of 8 meters and a diameter of 7 meters, was assembled completely dry by means of mechanical joints. The outer coating was made with turf of 50 cm wide sewn together, developed on the model of the green walls. After two weeks of installation it was dismantled to be relocated in Sempione Park, where it remained until January 2016 with a fabric coating. In February 2016 it was definitively reassembled in Duca d’Aosta square, in front of the entrance of the railway station “Milano centrale”, again changing the coating in natural lime plaster. Thanks to an agreement between Fondazione Pistoletto, Fondo Ambiente Italiano and Comune di Milano, “La Mela Reintegrata”(original project name) was donated to the city of Milan.
